| Message | There’s high outgoing packet loss. People might have a hard time hearing what you say. |
What is this about?
Outgoing packet loss occurs when data sent from your device (your voice and video) fails to reach its destination. The media server or the clinician’s device reports that it is receiving only a fraction of the information sent. This is typically a result of an unstable “upload” path.
Potential Risks
The clinician will likely hear choppy or “robotic” audio and see frozen video frames. In a medical context, this can be critical as it prevents the clinician from clearly hearing heart or lung sounds captured by the TytoCare stethoscope.
Suggested Actions to Take
- Switch to Wired: Whenever possible, use an Ethernet cable. Wi-Fi and cellular connections are prone to interference that causes packets to drop.
- Improve Proximity: If you must use Wi-Fi, move as close as possible to your router. Walls and distance significantly degrade the upload signal.
- Check Uplink Capacity: If your internet plan has a low upload speed, the “pipe” may be too small for high-quality video. Ensure your broadband offers at least 2 Mbps of stable upload.
- Optimizing Hardware: If you are using Wi-Fi mesh systems or extenders, they can sometimes add “hops” that increase loss. Try connecting directly to the main router.
