Troubleshooting: Error 60013 – Peripheral Access Technical Error

Error Details

Code 60013
Category Peripherals (Camera/Microphone)
Message Microphone and/or camera have issues. Some tests could not be conducted.

What is this about?

The system cannot initialize the selected media device. This failure prevents the application from capturing audio or video data, which is necessary to run network quality simulations and provide an accurate connection score.

Potential Root Causes

Because this is a generic technical error, the issue could be residing at any of the following levels:

  • Hardware Level: The camera or mic is unplugged, damaged, or physically disabled (Privacy slider).
  • Driver Level: The device drivers are outdated, corrupted, or missing.
  • Operating System Level: Another application (like Zoom, Teams, or a browser tab) is “holding” the device and refusing to share it.
  • Browser Level: A browser extension or internal error is preventing WebRTC from accessing the hardware.

Suggested Troubleshooting Actions

  1. Reboot the Device: A full restart often clears “device in use” errors and refreshes the hardware drivers.
  2. Check System Defaults: Ensure the intended camera and microphone are set as the Default in your Windows or macOS sound/privacy settings.
  3. Close Competing Apps: Completely quit other video conferencing tools (Teams, Zoom, Skype) before starting the test.
  4. Test in Another Browser: If using Chrome, try Edge or Safari (and vice versa) to rule out browser-specific glitches.

Support Tip: If you are using a laptop with a docking station, try disconnecting from the dock and using the built-in camera/mic. Docking station drivers are a frequent cause of peripheral handshake failures.
