Tyto Insights™ for Wheeze Detection
What is a Wheeze?
Wheezing is a shrill, whistling, or rattling sound produced during breathing when airways are partially blocked or narrowed. While more common during exhalation, it can also occur during inhalation.
- Common Causes: Asthma, pneumonia, bronchitis, allergies, or common colds.
- Risk Groups: Infants, the elderly, smokers, and patients with heart failure or emphysema.
How Tyto Insights™ Works
Tyto Insights for Wheeze Detection is a web-based AI designed to support clinicians in assessing lung auscultations. It uses a Convolutional Recurrent Neural Network (CRNN) algorithm trained on real-world recordings from Tyto Stethoscopes.

Understanding AI Indicators
| Wheezing Detected | The algorithm identified wheezing patterns in the sound data. |
| No Wheezing Detected | No wheeze patterns were found in the current recording. |
| Analysis Failed | Poor sound quality or background noise prevented analysis. |
Frequently Asked Questions
- Why is this not for patients under age 2? This limitation is based on the clinical data provided for FDA clearance. For children under 2, diagnostic requirements differ.
- Is it enabled by default? No. Contact your TytoCare Administrator to enable this feature for your organization.
- Can I use this for a final diagnosis? No. Per FDA clearance, the AI serves as an “empowerment tool” for reference and validation; clinical diagnosis remains the responsibility of the provider.
Support Tip: If an analysis fails, ensure the stethoscope is placed directly on the skin (not over clothing) and that the room is quiet before re-recording.
