This video guide provides instructions on how to perform an unguided ear examination using the TytoPro otoscope attachment. This is used to visualize the ear canal and tympanic membrane (eardrum).

Technique for a Clear View

  • Speculum Attachment: Securely attach a clean, disposable speculum (ear tip) to the otoscope before beginning.
  • Ear Alignment: For adults, gently pull the outer ear up and back. For children, pull the ear down and back. This helps straighten the ear canal for a better view of the eardrum.
  • Insertion: Slowly insert the tip into the ear canal while watching the screen. Stop if the patient feels any discomfort.
  • Cleaning the Lens: If the image appears blurry or "foggy," remove the speculum and gently wipe the otoscope lens with an alcohol prep pad.

Pro Tip: Use the TytoCare "circular navigation" technique. Once the otoscope is in the canal, slightly pivot the device in a circular motion to ensure you capture the entire perimeter of the tympanic membrane.
